Christmas Tree Verse
'Recycle me, recycle me!' - cried Mrs Jackson's Christmas tree. |
Choosing the perfect Christmas tree
Before buying your Christmas tree
This may sound obvious but you don’t want a tree that is too tall or too wide for your living room. Measure the ceiling height and decide upon the width of the tree you from the space you have available. Write these figures down on a piece of paper. Remember to include in your calculation the decoration at the top of the tree and the tree stand.
It may be an idea to take a tape measure with you to the shop and also a pair of thick gloves – needles can be sharp!
Selecting a Christmas tree
The needles should look shiny not dull and brown, give the tree a shake – only a few needles, if any will fall off. Trees with shorter needles are often easier to decorate.
Put your Christmas tree in water
When you’re ready to put your Christmas tree up cut an inch off the bottom and place it in water in your tree stand. Putting sugar, aspirin, soda or copper pennies will help prolong the life of the tree. Keep the tree stand filled with water as soon as you put it up.
Where to put your Christmas tree
Place your Christmas tree away from fireplaces, sunny areas of the room and radiators. These places may be dangerous and could have a drying effect on the tree. Also avoid areas of high traffic or where decorations and trailing light cables may get in the way.
